HARRY & WILLIAM’S RISKY REUNION
The moment of truth is fast approaching: Can the princes finally heal the hurt?
The stage is set for a showdown that could make or break the relationship between battling brothers Princes William and Harry.
Harry is expected to travel to the UK next month for a commemoration to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he founded.
It will be his first trip home since his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, 42, revealed in March that she is undergoing chemotherapy to treat cancer, and it could be the perfect opportunity to heal the rift with her and William. But it could also be the final nail in the coffin for the brothers’ broken bond.
If Harry, 39, does attend the May 8 service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, it’ll be a chance to have a face-toface meeting with the older brother he has barely spoken to in the last few years. It may also be the catalyst for the two feuding siblings to put their grievances aside and unite to deal with the heartache the royal family is currently facing, including their father the King’s cancer diagnosis.
Many royal correspondents believe the devastating news about Kate’s illness will make Harry regret some of the things he and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have said in his memoir Spare and their Netflix documentary series about her – including claims she made Meghan, 42, cry over a stand-off about bridesmaids’ dresses in the lead-up to the Sussexes’ wedding.
Biographer Duncan Larcombe says, “Bombshell news like Kate’s puts things into perspective, and Harry isn’t immune from being filled with regrets and whatifs. Kate was like the sister Harry never had, and he’s probably full of regret at how his relationship with her and William has collapsed so spectacularly.”
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam says now is the ideal time for Harry to try to make amends.
“Catherine and the King’s illnesses are an enormous game-changer, even when there is a deep family rift. And the best way of resolving that – if it is to be resolved – is to do it privately while Harry’s here.”
Harry is understood to be keen to repair his relationship with his family and Richard says it would be very awkward if Harry didn’t make the effort to visit his sick sister-in-law while he’s in the same country.
However, he’ll only try to mend fences if he gets the go-ahead from his wife. “Harry won’t do anything without Meghan’s consent,” adds Richard.
Meghan’s unlikely to make the trip to the UK. She has a valid excuse: Harry has maintained he doesn’t want his family to visit Britain without full security, which they’ve been denied by the
