Starting block for style

-

As much a trend in interior design as it is in fashion, colour blocking adds vibrancy and edge to your home. And there’s an option for every taste…

Bold choice

Explore the unexpected and go for dramatic combinations in contrasting hues. Colour blocking is particularly effective when presented in interesting geometric shapes, whether across an entire space or in one section of a wall. A Mondrian-inspired look, using pops of Resene Jalapeno, Resene Aviator and Resene Galliano will create a talking point.

In the shade

Consider using varying depths and shades of one colour, for example a viridescent colour palette using

Resene Ravine as a backdrop, with a wall section in Resene Pumice and bookshelf in Resene Blue Smoke. This approach is effective when using colour to define spaces in an open-plan area.

Complementary hues

A good option is selecting analogous colours – those which are close on the colour wheel – for example green and aqua or red and orange. These can then be carried from the walls into soft furnishings and art.

Subtle shift

Try varying levels of shine and texture. You could use a gloss like Resene Enamacryl next to Resene SpaceCote Flat, or consider painting over a Resene anaglypta wallpaper for a tactile finish.

Top tip: Trial your colour choices using Resene testpots on a small area before you start.
