par­tic­i­pants met and talked to new peo­ple. They con­sis­tently found that par­tic­i­pants ex­pe­ri­enced a ‘lik­ing gap’ – that is, par­tic­i­pants said they liked their con­ver­sa­tion part­ner, but un­der­es­ti­mated how much their con­ver­sa­tion part­ners liked them back. If that sounds fa­mil­iar, don’t worry – just don’t let it stop you mak­ing new friends.
