Dr Jackie Blue
Sponsored by the Ministry for Women, this award recognises an outstanding individual driving equal pay in an organisation. Dr Jackie Blue’s role as the former Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner has been instrumental in driving positive change for women, in particular pay equity. She represented NZ at the 2018 United Nations CEDAW (the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) calling for the government to step up its work to address the marginalisation of women in the workforce and incorporate the principle of equal pay for equal value in legislation. Dr Blue also fronted the $600K Gap campaign, which highlighted over their working life women earn $600,000 less on average than their male counterparts. “Women are overrepresented and on the wrong side of the gender pay gap, domestic violence and sexual assault,” says Dr Blue, who believes these problems stem from society valuing women less than men.
