Wine event to benefit Hospice

-

A wine tasting charity event on November 21 will benefit Hibiscus Hospice.

An unrivalled choice of wine will be presented at the exclusive wine tasting session in the hospice’s Red Beach conference centre, with an opportunity for unlimited tasting.

For a single ticket price, wine lovers will be able to sample from nearly 50 labels – all premium single vineyard wines – from New Zealand boutique vineyards.

The event is designed to raise awareness of quality New Zealand-produced single vineyard wine; in a world of factory assembled alternatives from different vineyards, different regions, even different countries, and in doing so raise money for the hospice.

‘‘It’s about getting back to knowing what’s in our wine,’’ organiser Iain Gracie of Single Vineyard Wines says. ‘‘All our clients are family-owned businesses. All tend their own vineyards and while some make their wine on site, others utilise the expertise of local winemakers.

‘‘The chances are you’ll have tasted their grapes before without being aware of it. Because many are so recognised, they sell surplus harvest stocks to the big producers for their premium single vineyard or single estate varieties.’’

For $35 a person, guests will enjoy unlimited tasting, accompanying canapes and the expert advice of wine writer Phil Parker.

Wines will include highly acclaimed medal winners here and internationally, and there will also be the opportunity to pre-order on the night at discounted prices.

A list of exhibiting vineyards is at singlevineyardwines.co.nz, or just type Single Vineyard Wines into Google.

Tickets can be purchased from the venue, Hibiscus Hospice, John Dee Crescent, Red Beach or through the website hibiscushospice.org.nz. But be quick, as the number is limited to 150.

Wine tasting is from 6pm to 8.30pm.
