Event not short of stars

-

Shortland Street stars joined the Whangaparaoa Golf Club’s charity tournament for Hibiscus Hospice.

The annual event attracted 116 players.

‘‘It’s likely the tournament has contributed close to $200,000 to charities over the past 30 years,’’ Whangaparaoa Golf Club vicepresident Ric Bardsley says.

This year $7150 was raised for Hibiscus Hospice from entry and sponsorship fees, auctions and raffles. Two club members also donated $750.

‘‘It’s one of our best results yet,’’ Bardsley says.

‘‘We couldn’t have done it without the support of our sponsors and also the generous donation of goods or services from so many local businesses and organisations.’’

Shortland Street stars Angela Bloomfield and Jacqueline Nairn also played a few holes in aid of the hospice.

Bloomfield, who plays Rachel McKenna in the series, enjoys the occasional game of golf but Jacqueline, who plays Wendy Cooper, says she was ‘‘new to the game but enjoyed it j ust the same’’.

‘‘The Whangaparaoa Golf Club’s support has been phenomenal over the years and is recognised with a plaque at our premises in Red Beach,’’ Hibiscus Hospice community engagement manager Dyan Cann says.

‘‘We can’t thank them enough for everything they have done and continue to do for hospice.’’
