Kristin’s problem solvers
Nine Kristin students have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Future Problem Solving International Finals in Iowa next year.
Their selection comes as a result of their top team performance at a national contest last month, placing first and second in their division.
Kristin entered two teams of four and one individual into the senior division of the National Future Problem Solving Finals, held in Auckland over the first weekend of November.
Tasked with solving a global issues problem related to the future of land transportation, both teams used extensive research and creative problem solving skills to deliver their solutions.
Competition was tough with 38 of the country’s best senior teams making up the division, however the Kristin challengers took both top spots.
Iain Campbell, Joe Gauld, Matthew Flower and Rohan Naik were named national champions, while Rocky Jiang, Charles Law, Nadia Meyer and Jessica Tucker were runners-up.
Individual competitor Nicholas Miehlbradt was named runner-up in the senior individual division.
Kristin’s winning team was also awarded first place in the Community Problem Solving Senior Division and third place for their presentation of an action plan.
Kristin teacher Christine Mackway-Jones says the results are fantastic.
‘‘The results reflect the immense amount of study and preparation they have put in throughout the year.
‘‘They will be a force to be reckoned with when they get to Iowa next year.’’
