Fundraiser with a bang

- DANIELLE CLENT

A fireworks display is promising a mix of rockets, explosions, colour and sound.

The Taupaki School Monster Fireworks display began 32 years ago as a way to raise money for Taupaki School.

Principal Pete Hall said about 11,000 people usually come together to support the community.

‘‘Our incredible PTA run the event professionally, with teams of parents assigned to every stand, gate, and stall.’’

Every year’s fireworks display was different, but Hall said people could expect a great mix of rockets, explosions, colour and sound.

‘‘People love the fact that it’s a great night out with food, rides and stalls to keep everyone fed and entertained leading up to the big show,’’ he said.

‘‘Families love to camp out on the bank on a blanket and enjoy a great up front view of some incredible fireworks.’’

With the event taking place in a rural community, Hall said this display was the safest way for families to enjoy fireworks without disturbing livestock or animals on neighbouring farms.

‘‘We always keep in touch with local farmers so they know when the show will be on,’’ he said.

Funds raised from the fireworks display would go towards arts, technology and other activities at the school, Hall said.

The display would take place at the Kumeu¯ Showgrounds, Access Rd, on October 27 from 5pm.

At the gate, a family pass cost $35, adults were $15 and children and seniors $5.

‘‘... it's a great night out with food, rides and stalls.’’
