Coatesville’s Ag Day
The school’s annual Ag Day is a nod to the area’s rural traditions.
The hills of Coatesville will soon be alive with the sounds of... lambs and goats and chickens.
Coatesville School’s annual Agricultural Day or Ag Day will be held this Saturday, where pupils past and present and their families, as well as the Coatesville community and beyond, can come and enjoy seeing farm animals and gala-type stalls.
In preparation for the day, children need to raise either a plant or an animal.
Years 3 to 6 are also encouraged to undertake a ‘rural tradition’, where they can create an edible, decorative or usable project.
Past entries have included everything from preserves to bee keeping to handmade doll’s houses.
School principal Richard
Johnson said the occasion was ‘‘one of the most anticipated days’’ in the school’s calendar.
Many past pupils also came back to the school to enjoy Ag Day, he said.
The event, planned by Friends of Coatesville School in conjunction with staff, will raise funds towards completing the school’s new Forest playground, repainting the community’s pool in time for the summer season, as well as longerterm projects, such as a new learning hub.
Market stalls will include preloved clothes, books, homemade goods, and classrooms will be open in the afternoon for the rural traditions projects to be viewed.
Coatesville School Ag Day is on October 28 from 10am-2pm.
Official judging of animals and plants starts at 9.30am, with a prizegiving at 2pm. All stalls are open from 11am.
