WAIAKE ESTUARY
BACKWARD STEP
According to Milford Business Association manager Murray Hill the development of the Milford Mall plan will be a real positive for the area (May 26).
Could he also explain to me what effect this plan will have on the increase of traffic volumes and pressure on infrastructure and if that can be seen as a real positive.
A lot of people like to go to Devonport, me included, but I hardly ever go any more because the traffic volumes are just too high.
We are being told that Auckland is the most liveable city in the world but this is certainly the greatest lie ever told.
Auckland is a beautiful city, but the council and the Government have let us down in a big way.
Leen Auperle Milford
I was visiting beautiful Torbay and Waiake, where I was brought up, it has been a refreshing experience.
However, it comes with alarming disappointment and some disgust at the state of the Waiake estuary.
I was reading the North Shore Times of May 17 and note the Torbay Sailing Club is being refurbished to host an international regatta. Congratulations on securing this prestigious event. It is a pity alongside this venue is the sadly degraded estuary that was very much part of my childhood playground.
Julia Parfitt stated: ‘‘It’s really important there’s some benefit to the local community.’’
Why don’t you clean up Deep Creek as part of the ‘‘fast tracking projects’’. I would encourage the council and the people of Torbay/ Deep Creek to create an attractive estuarine environment adjacent to the club.
Something all of you can be proud of.

BIRKENHEAD BUSES
I strongly disapprove of the standardised colour scheme for public transport being enforced by AT.
If the various bus operators retain individual liveries then it makes catching the right bus easier – and saves running to a stop to find the bus already there is the wrong. As one of many with imperfect vision, I rely first on the colour of the bus and secondly, as it comes nearer, on the destination and route number displayed on the front.
These considerations assist me to use the bus service with confidence, helping to provide what used to be called ‘‘customer satisfaction’’.
Birkenhead Transport Ltd has been operating satisfactorily for decades. The cream livery and lack of advertising are well known features on the North Shore.
Are we to understand that at the whim of some alleged expert this successful private business is to be stripped of its identity and individuality?
