Thirty-four North Shore residents will compete in the 33rd Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman New Zealand in Taupo on March 4. Ironman New Zealand was the first Internatio­nal Ironman event establishe­d by the owners of Ironman Hawaii. Today it is one of 40 events global events – each comprising a 3.8km swim 180km bike and 42.2km run - that qualify participan­ts for the annual Ironman World Championsh­ip in Hawaii.It is New Zealand’s biggest and richest annual internatio­nal one-day sporting event, with the 2017 event expected to attract a field of more than 1200 participan­ts from over 40 countries.

PHOENIX IN ALBANY

The Wellington Phoenix return to Auckland for a second time this season, when they take on Perth Glory at QBE Stadium on March 4 kicking off at 7.35pm. The Phoenix are coming off an upset 2-1 victory against Brisbane Roar. Whereas Perth has rocketed to third on the A-League table after a hard- fought 2-0 win over a weary Western Sydney Wanderers on February 25. The curtain raiser to the Phoenix’s match is the Wellington Phoenix reserve team against Waitakere United in the Stirling Sports Premiershi­p.

COLOUR RUN

The Color Run Tropicolor World Tour is bringing a 5km run to the North Shore on March 12 at QBE Stadium, Stadium Drive, Albany from 8am til 11am. All participan­ts receive a t-shirt, headband, finishers medal, temporary tattoos and colour packet with their entry fee.
