The lure of science

-

Amy Suto, 29, is an environmental scientist living in Milford

How long have you lived here and where are you from?

Adelaide in Australia and I’ve lived on the Shore for just over two and a half years.

Describe your neighbourhood.

It’s pretty friendly, quiet, safe. Lots of brunch, lots of people in active wear over the weekends. What is your earliest memory of the Shore? First day of work. My office is on the Shore and my earliest memory is going to work on the first day. Getting very very lost and confused because the road names were not familiar to me.

What are the greatest advantages to living here?

Probably my 3 kilometre commute to work and the beaches are so close. Also, I really like the gyms on the Shore.

Where is your favourite North Shore beach and why?

Mairangi Bay, because it has a nice walk along the beach, you can walk along the waterfront.

Who is the person you admire the most and why?

Probably Sir David Attenborough. He’s the reason I studied science. He’s just been an inspiration. I think he’s brought the world into so many people’s lives with what he’s done, and he’s informed so many people. Not only does he teach people about the wonders of the world he does it in a way that transcends social or racial constructs. When you watch his shows you can remove the concept of prejudice.

What do you like least about the Shore and how can we fix it?

The lack of bike lanes along Hurstmere Rd. I feel very unsafe trying to ride my bike to work. And I think they could probably do with making Milford a lot more bike friendly.

Where is the best place to have a meal?

I really like going to Bread & Butter and having

‘‘Probably Sir David Attenborough. He's the reason I studied science. He's just been an inspiration. I think he's brought the world into so many people's lives with what he's done, and he's informed so many people.’’

brunch there. The almond croissants are amazing. What are you doing this weekend?

I am going to Raglan, I’m escaping Auckland. My friend from Australia is coming over and we’re going to Raglan for the weekend. We were hoping to go to the beach but the weather doesn’t look great so probably just sitting inside and drinking lots of coffee.
