Discover a new trend that’s fast-tracking skin rejuvenation

-

Like sunscreen, moisturiser is a skincare basic. It plumps, smooths and protects.

But sometimes we need to delve deep beneath the skin’s surface, turning to appearance medicine for the most innovative and effective ways to rejuvenate the complexion.

One of the latest trends is Redensity. Currently big in Europe – where it is sometimes referred to as ‘‘skin boosting’’ – Redensity involves multiple injections of a cocktail of skin-benefiting ingredients. The tiny needles penetrate the surface of the skin, allowing the ingredients to seep into its second layer, or dermis. The immediate results are significant – a dewy youthful glow – but the main benefits occur over time.

‘‘The controlled skin injury caused by the needles stimulates collagen which leads to better volume and reduced lines and wrinkles,’’ says appearance medicine specialist Dr Teresa Cattin of Auckland’s FaceWorks clinic.

‘‘I first saw the results of Redensity in Paris and realised this was a treatment I needed at FaceWorks and of course, needed to have myself! While we have Botox to relax muscle, various great fillers to replace fat loss and volume and soften lines, I had not been able to find a skinrejuvenation treatment I was happy with – until now.’’

One of the stars of Redensity is hyaluronic acid, a natural skinlubricating substance actually produced by the body. Commonly used in skin creams – it can hold up to a thousand times its weight in water – it plumps up the skin and provides an antioxidant defence against free-radical damage. But hyaluronic acid’s results are far more powerful when injected deep into the skin, rather than smoothed on top. Think prune to plum.

‘‘At 35, the skin’s thickness has decreased by about 22 per cent,’’ says Teresa. ‘‘As it gets thinner, it becomes more fragile, dehydrates and its elasticity diminishes.

‘‘Redensity helps to recover a healthy glow, thicken skin, and increase elasticity and hydration. For optimal results at FaceWorks we also recommend combining it with Limelight IPL to reduce redness and brown spots.’’

Redensity is suitable for the face, neck, decolletage and hands. It can be used regularly as a core treatment to prevent premature cutaneous ageing or to complement other injectable treatments like Botox or dermal filling.

It involves little discomfort and minimal downtime.
