Elderly man trapped against fence
An elderly man is critically injured, after being trapped between a car and a fence at a residential property in Mairangi Bay.
St John, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and police were called to the address just before 1pm on Thursday, November 17.
Sergeant Bryan Hodder, who works in road policing, said an elderly man was trapped under the front of the car on the residential property.
‘‘We don’t know how long he was there, but he was conscious when police and fire showed up,’’ Hodder said.
Two ambulances, two fire trucks and two police cars were still at the scene at 1.45pm.
At that point, Fire and Emergency shift manager Paul Radden said crews were working to free the man.
‘‘We are in attendance at a motor vehicle accident, where a car has hit a pedestrian and the person is trapped, and we are in the process of stabilising the vehicle and extricating the person,’’ Radden said.
Shortly afterwards, the man was taken to Auckland Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition.
The police serious crash unit remained at the scene to investigate the incident.
The accident appears to have occurred up or near a long driveway leading to a house.
