Jazz bands showcase wealth of talent
Avery popular event on the Taranaki Jazz Club’s annual calendar is the Secondary Schools’ Jazz Band Day, showcasing the wealth of talent among our young people.
Groups from Spotswood College, Frances Douglas Memorial College, NPBHS and NPGHS will take part, many of them fresh from the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Band Festival in Hamilton.
The wonderful Words with the Birds vocal trio will be one of many highlights.
Don’t be surprised if you recognise familiar faces from other musical events, such as the recent Student Stars concert.
These are seriously talented young musicians who often play several instruments in a whole range of styles, keen to take up whatever musical opportunities are offered to them, and to work hard to be successful.
Profits from the day go back to the music departments of the schools, so it is a great way to support music education.
It’s on Sunday September 18 at The Mayfair. Admission: Families $20, Adults $10, Students $4.
Doors open at 2.30pm for a 3.00pm start.
The next Chamber Music New Zealand concert features Quintessence.
