Community Fitness gym is expanding

-

Kerikeri’s Community Fitness is a non-profit facility that has been operating for 21 years.

Its focuses on community health and sporting excellence and on June 7 will open a new training space after months of planning and hard work.

This space will provide greater opportunities to people from all walks of life. As well as providing gym services it also sponsors 15 to 20 people each year into free, fully supervised training opportunities.

These referrals come through schools with special needs children, Police, Northland DHB mental health and local GPs via Green Prescription (diabetics, those with heart disease etc).

The new space will offer FreeFit on Friday nights for anyone with health, weight or confidence issues. Designed with easy participation, safety and fun in mind it aims to help participants gain confidence, health and well being. There will also be weekly M&M (Mature & Motivated) group training for $5 for those suffering from diabetes, weight and general non-activity issues as well as supervised KidsFit sessions for $5 per session.

‘‘We see Community Fitness’ on-going drive to expand and continue to meet the changing needs of their existing and prospective members as crucial to their proven long-term success in Northland. Community Fitness is supporting people getting active and getting healthy, and this can only lead to the increased wellbeing of the community,’’ Brent Eastwood, Chief Executive Sports Northland says.
