Rakky backs youth

-

Rakky Alexander, 17, youth intern at AKAU, likes movies, lives in Kaikohe.

What do you like best about the Far North?

It’s really beautiful, all the green space, how all the beaches are so close. There is a different kind of scenery everywhere, all the towns are different.

How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I’ve lived in Kaikohe for a couple of months, before that I lived in the Waihou Valley for eight years and before that Kawakawa.

What do you like least and how can we fix it?

I see a lot of youth issues, there are some who are not in schools or courses and with nothing to do. They are not engaged and they think they don’t have anyone to guide them. They need a relationship with someone who can help them because they are indulging themselves in things that are not good for them.

I’d like to see the youth think more of themselves then I think they will try harder, to better the environment or situation they are in. What’s your favourite eatery?

Jimmy Jacks in Paihia or the Rocksalt in Kerikeri.

Your highlight of the week?

Usually on Fridays I end up going out to

Paihia, ice cream or fish and chips with my sister or mum because I like going on drives.

Who is the Kiwi you most admire?

Ana and Ruby from Akau, because they are so refreshing with their lovely personalities and they have kept me around. They have become friends and they took me under their wing and helped me. They are invested emotionally. The spot in Northland I’d recommend is? Opononi, it’s beautiful out there.

If I were Far North mayor I’d…

Create more job opportunities, it would give people an upgrade on their life and extra money for the family.

When I’ve got a free few hours, I like to... I like to read a good book or watch a good movie with my sisters.
