Queen to rock the North

- STAFF REPORTER

Queen It’s A Kinda Magic is on its way to the Far North.

Showtime Australia and Peter Freestone are bringing the theatrical rock concert back to New Zealand theatres in May and June.

The show, which got a great reception from New Zealand audiences in 2015, will be performed at the Turner Centre in Kerikeri on June 4.

The Northern News has a double pass up for grabs.

Principal musician Giles Taylor steps on stage as Freddie Mercury, belting out the band’s greatest hits We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, Fat Bottomed Girls and We are the Champions.

‘‘The show is effectively a visual montage of Queens best live performances,’’ Taylor says.

‘‘It is designed to cater for diehard Queen fans, newbies to the Queen scene and your average rock music fan.

‘‘When people come to the show we aim to have them leaving with the perception that they have just seen the real Queen live.

‘‘The painstaking attention to detail from the costumes to the insane lighting and visual show is really something to behold and something that Queen themselves would have done in their heyday.’’

Also involved in the production is Peter Freestone, Freddie Mercury’s best friend, biographer, assistant and constant companion for the final 12 years of his life.

Freestone has schooled the cast and producers on the characters and nuances of the original band in order to perfect the performance.

❚ Tickets from the Turner Centre, 09 4070260.

❚ To enter the draw for the double pass, email your full name, town and contact daytime phone number, by May 30, to jenny.ling@fairfaxmedia.co.nz
