Photographers help pets
Kiwi photographers are snapping up the chance to help rescue animals find forever homes, thanks to a new Facebook initiative.
The New Zealand Photographers for Animal Rescue group is a volunteer based enterprise putting rescue animals in touch with amateur and professional photographers.
The resulting images - often captured by professionals - are helping the homeless pets put their best paws forward as they seek adoption.
Page admin Kelly Wolfe comes from a background of pet photography, and is a volunteer for DC Rescue Dogs.
Wolfe says they’ve had a ‘‘great response so far’’ from photographers joining the group, which now has nearly 200 members across the country.
‘‘An extra special photo can make people look at an animal they might otherwise not look at,’’ she said.
Wolfe says anybody is welcome to join, but it’s important members have a genuine willingness to help, and having a background working with animals will be beneficial.
Ali Smith of Auckland Puppy Rescue says the charity has been using professional photographers for several years, ‘‘but it can be difficult when your puppies are in foster homes all across Auckland. This page has been great for us to connect with people in all areas at short notice,’’ she said.
