Transgende­r-led Rūrangi screening

Northland’s gender-diverse community is hosting a public screening of an Aotearoa transgende­r-led feature film Rūrangi in honour of Trans Day of Visibility.

Gender Diverse Whangārei is a peer-led group providing support for the gender diverse community in Whangārei including all trans, non-binary, indigenous gender, and gender non-conforming people.

While most of its meetings are for members only, this film screening is open to the public. Gender Diverse Whangārei aims for it to be an engaging and affirming arts experience for gender-diverse people in the community and a positive introducti­on to gender diversity for the general public.

Internatio­nal Trans Day of Visibility occurs annually on March 31. It is intended to provide opportunit­ies for gender-diverse

Secret Bridesmaid­s’ Business: Elizabeth Coleman’s wonderful characters bring this seriously funny Australian play to life. Tickets on people to be vibrant, proud, and out together and for cisgender (not trans) people to learn about trans people in safe contexts.

Rūrangi is about Caz Davis who left his home in the small town of Rūrangi, abandoning everyone, and moved to Auckland to start his new life where he transition­s.

Years later, he returns to the town where he grew up for the first time as an out trans man. He now must face the people whom he abandoned and start to rebuild those relationsh­ips.
