On a Magic Carpet Ride: Divas & Diamonds – recalling classic songs of the ’60s through ’80s. Girls, Guys & Groups, complete with high-class

A tribute show to some of the greats of internatio­nal music is being put on by two Kiwi greats.

Barbie Davidson found fame on popular local TV shows and supported local tours by internatio­nal stars like Kenny Rogers and Gene Pitney.

Glyn Tucker was singer/ songwriter in 1960s band The Gremlins. He then founded Mandrill Recording Studios in

1975, and produced hundreds of Kiwi recordings including Citizen Band, Crocodiles, Mockers, Satellite Spies and Dave Dobbyn.

Lately Tucker had been singing old standards; Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and such. By chance he discovered he could sing Neil Diamond songs, so he explored

backing, starring Barbie Davison and Glyn Tucker. Turner Centre, 43 Cobham Rd, Kerikeri. 7pm.

TUES, MAY 31

Concert with singer Nicky Moran: Aglow Whangārei is hosting Nicky as part of her nationwide tour, singing the gospel and sharing testimonie­s of changed lives through her prison ministry and churches. Free but koha taken. Tikipunga Baptist Church, cnr Kiripaka Rd & Heretaunga St, Tikipunga. 7pm. that further, ending up with a Neil Diamond tribute show.

Breaking Bread – Hummus Has No Borders. A doco about a food festival that invites both Arab and Jewish chefs to gather, exchange stories and share their recipes and techniques. Forum North, 7 Rust Ave, Whangārei. 6pm.

In desperatio­n, she hires three inexperien­ced exconvicts to rescue her life’s work. featuring pop divas Cilla Black, Sandy Shaw, Dusty Springfiel­d, Petula Clark, and the dynamic Shirley Bassey. She debuted her new show at a Variety Artists event, and it drew a standing ovation from her peers.

It was Davidson who suggested they put the two shows together, that would enable her to quick change into her spectacula­r gowns and costumes for each of the five aforementi­oned British divas. Then they added Barbra Streisand to the mix for the big Diamond/Streisand classic ballad You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.
