Writers tea party

Sip and chat with some local literary greats in Amberley on Saturday.

Calling all wordsmiths, bookworms and literarian­s: the Amberley Memorial Library is holding its annual writers tea party on Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm.

This year the line-up includes Anna Rogers, Mike Crean and Rachel O’Neill.

Rogers lives in Christchur­ch and is a nationally acclaimed book editor who works for most of the major New Zealand publishing houses. She has written eight nonfiction books, including: ’While You’re Away: New Zealand Nurses at War 1899-1948’.

Crean is a well known and much admired journalist, originally from Hawarden. A highly entertaini­ng speaker, he is the author of five books, among them one on NZ cricket and one on Canterbury sports. A new book with photograph­s by his friend, David Hallett, is due out on September 30. It is based on a journey through the South Island’s Heartland.

O’Neill is a young filmmaker, writer and artist. She is a graduate in Fine Arts from Elam and also has an MA in Creative Writing from Victoria University. She illustrate­d her own collection of poetry, ‘One Human in Height’ and also ‘Maukatere, floating mountain’ by local writer Bernadette Hall. Rachel works in different mediums from online web series to experiment­al graphic fiction and essays.

The event will be chaired by Amberley Beach author Bernadette Hall
