Writers tea party
Sip and chat with some local literary greats in Amberley on Saturday.
Calling all wordsmiths, bookworms and literarians: the Amberley Memorial Library is holding its annual writers tea party on Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm.
This year the line-up includes Anna Rogers, Mike Crean and Rachel O’Neill.
Rogers lives in Christchurch and is a nationally acclaimed book editor who works for most of the major New Zealand publishing houses. She has written eight nonfiction books, including: ’While You’re Away: New Zealand Nurses at War 1899-1948’.
Crean is a well known and much admired journalist, originally from Hawarden. A highly entertaining speaker, he is the author of five books, among them one on NZ cricket and one on Canterbury sports. A new book with photographs by his friend, David Hallett, is due out on September 30. It is based on a journey through the South Island’s Heartland.
O’Neill is a young filmmaker, writer and artist. She is a graduate in Fine Arts from Elam and also has an MA in Creative Writing from Victoria University. She illustrated her own collection of poetry, ‘One Human in Height’ and also ‘Maukatere, floating mountain’ by local writer Bernadette Hall. Rachel works in different mediums from online web series to experimental graphic fiction and essays.
The event will be chaired by Amberley Beach author Bernadette Hall
