Mai Chen named in Global Diversity List

Tainui Group Holdings ( TGH) has appointed Lyndon Settle to the role of general manager strategy and finance. TGH chief executive Chris Joblin says Settle brings a strong knowledge of business investment and finance, wealth generation and the agribusine­ss sector as Tainui Group Holdings pursues its diversific­ation strategy on behalf of Waikato-Tainui. Settle has been managing partner of BNZ Partners Auckland since 2011, and held the equivalent role at BNZ Partners in the Waikato prior to that.

Prime Minister John Key has announced the appointmen­t of Peter Hughes CNZM as the next State Services Commission­er and head of State Services. He has been appointed for a five-year term starting on July 4. He is one of New Zealand’s most experience­d and respected public service chief executives. Hughes is currently the chief executive and secretary for education, a role he has held since February 2013. He replaces Iain Rennie, who has held the position since 2008.

Mighty River Power has appointed Kevin Angland to the position of GM digital services. Chief executive Fraser Whineray says the new role is an important addition to the company’s leadership team as part of its focus on delivering customer-driven innovation. Angland, NZ CIO of the Year in 2014, has held senior leadership positions with IAG NZ over the past decade, most recently as its chief informatio­n officer. Mighty River Power has announced it will be moving to a single new Mercury brand later this year.

Dimension Data, the US$7.5 billion global ICT solutions and services provider has appointed John Lombard as CEO of Dimension Data Asia Pacific. He joins from SAP, where he was senior vice president responsibl­e for services and support across 14 countries in the Asia Pacific/ Japan region. During his time at the company, he also led the consulting business in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to SAP, Lombard was the CEO and MD of Crowe Horwath Australasi­a Ltd. (formerly WHK Group).

Keith Gilby has been appointed to the role of general manager of the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC), replacing outgoing general manager Sam Newton. Gilby has worked for 30 years in the electricit­y industry most recently as general manager southern for Switch Utilities.

BNZ has appointed Jodene Murphy as head of brand and customer experience. She joins BNZ from her role as senior manager – brand, planning and insights at Spark. She has the full gamut of experience, including working agency side, in senior roles at .99, Vodafone NZ and Westpac.

Crown Company Ōtākaro Limited has appointed Albert Brantley to the role of chief executive, effective 2 May 2016. The appointmen­t comes after Ōtākaro officially took on responsibi­lities for the delivery of Christchur­ch’s anchor projects and precincts. Brantley joins Ōtākaro following eight years as chief executive of Genesis Energy. Mai Chen, chair of the Superdiver­sity Centre for Law, Policy and Business, who featured in the May issue of Management, has been named in The Economist’s Top 50 Global Diversity List. Chen is also managing partner at Chen Palmer Partners, chair of New Zealand Asian Leaders, adjunct professor for the Faculty of Law at the University of Auckland, and a director of the BNZ.

She is listed in the Top 50 Diversity Figures in Public Life, a category that recognises the achievemen­ts of individual­s who have used their position in public life to make an impact in diversity. The Global Diversity List is affiliated with the Global Diversity Awards, which produces the annual European Diversity Awards. The Global Diversity List is supported by The Economist publicatio­n, a statement from the Superdiver­sity Centre says.
