TRADIES GET ON THE CLOUD

MORE KIWI TRADIES are ditching pen and paper and embracing cloud technology, thanks to the proliferation of new software that delivers project visibility and management capacity in the palm of their hand.

Job management software provider simPRO Software has recently added a swag of new people to help manage growth, including a new customer success manager, implementation consultant, marketing manager, and client support team.

New Zealand GM Richard Pratley said the company was adding hundreds of new users every month as trade service businesses look to upgrade their outdated paper-based project management systems. “The response has just been incredible and we see the country as a major growth market.”

The software is designed for operators in the electrical, plumbing, HVAC and security industries. One of the local companies reaping the benefits of simPRO is Auckland-based Dalton Electrical, founded by Dave Dalton in 1966 and now managed by son Bruce.

Bruce Dalton says simPRO had given the company the ability to measure and manage productivity better. “The reporting function is a real bonus. You can’t fudge anything, which is a great way to keep projects on track.”

He says simPRO has opened his eyes to the benefits of moving other functions to the cloud.

“The guys have now all gone over to Google for email and calendars, which has made a great difference to reliability and efficiency.

“I really can’t understand why everyone is not using an automated job system. The thought of people still using paper systems is just bizarre.”
