GRAHAM McRAE #2

-

December 13, 1967. Graham McRae, first outing of the new car at Palmer Head hillclimb, Wellington. He told us the cockpit was too narrow as, when he was building the chassis, he measured from the outside of the tubing instead of inside. He set a new record for the hillclimb.

Thanks Philip, that’s a great shot of Graham in what looks to be his first McRae Twin-Cam – Graham actually built two Twin-Cam single-seaters, the S2 version being visibly different. These cars were based on Graham’s first single-seater, a Brabham. As you might expect, the Brabham and the first McRae single-seater looked very similar, and to add to the confusion the McRae Twin-Cam appeared in blue and in red. The car in Philip’s photo looks like the S1 Twin-Cam. Note the ‘Kiwi’ on the car’s bonnet and the Crown Lynn sponsorship signage. AGW
