CLASSIC JAGUARS IN NEW ZEALAND
Jaguar, renowned worldwide for their style, performance and excellent value as well as their sporting reputation, have produced some of the most iconic cars of the modern age.
Through the post-WW2 launch of the XK120 and Mark VII, plus a series of famous wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the marque made a global impact on the motoring scene – and from Jaguar’s factory in Coventry, England, the furthest export market was New Zealand.
To mark the 100th year of Jaguar’s origin, in 2022 a new locally written, photographed and published book will be launched. Classic Jaguars in New Zealand tells the story of the marque’s origins while a series of profiles featuring 40 New Zealand-owned classic saloon and sports cars will include a range of models stretching from the 1932 AustinSwallow, through SS models to the iconic E-Type and the big cats of the late 1990s.
This hardcover book, with dust jacket, will present a substantial and fresh contribution to Kiwi motoring history, featuring 316 pages, over 500 photographs and many informative appendices covering a series of subjects such as racing Jaguars in New Zealand, as well as coverage of local specialists including Beacham Jaguar, Coventry Classics, Upper Classics and Rod Tempero Body Builders.
The author, Rev Dr Richard Waugh, is well known for his books on New Zealand aviation history, among many others, while classic car enthusiasts will know Richard as the enthusiastic founding chairman of the extremely successful Auckland Brit & Euro Classic Car Show. Richard, a long-time Jaguar owner and enthusiast, is well placed to write about the cars featured in Classic Jaguars in New Zealand, while his informative text is brilliantly backed up by a superb portfolio of full-colour images photographed exclusively for this book by NZ Classic Driver’s awardwinning photographer Cameron Leggett.
