AUCKLAND BRIT & EURO CLASSIC CAR SHOW
SUNDAY, MARCH 5
In 2015, a group of Auckland classic car lovers joined forces and decided to share their passion for British and European classic motors with their community. The goal was to provide a free, non-competitive event to suit everyone, from the keenest petrol head through to the absolute vintage car virgin, and also to provide an environment that families would enjoy. It was also key that all British and European cars and their owners were welcomed, from the recently restored to the daily drivers. A seed of an idea grew, gained momentum and the end result was the first Auckland Brit & Euro Classic Car Show, held in March 2016.
The committee had what they thought was an ambitious goal of 250 cars for the first event, and were surprised when over 440 classic car owners registered to display their cars. As each year and each show has passed, attendance continues to grow and initial registrations for the 2023 show indicate over 1200 cars are likely to be attending. There is significant enthusiasm from classic car owners to attend displays following the recent unsettling years, and this bodes well as 2023 is looking to be the largest show yet.
In 2021 the show put on a special display under the show’s own “Brit & Euro Revival” banner of race prepared cars and cars of distinction as a tribute to the famous Goodwood Revival. For 2023 a new display of different race-prepared cars and micro cars will feature.
Micro cars are probably best represented in New Zealand by the very recognisable Fiat 500 or ‘Bambina’ and whilst these iconic cars will be central to the micro car display, it wouldn’t be complete without the lesserknown cars such as the Isetta, Goggomobil, Messerschmitt, Bond or Peel brands amongst others. The Hamilton Classic Car Museum will be joining the show this year with a selection of their own micro cars.
Aside from the race and micro cars, there will be over 65 other car marques represented, from Austin to Aston Martin, BMW to Bristol, Fiat to Ferrari, Vauxhall to VW. All in all, a wide selection of posterperfect sports cars, memory laden family sedans and everything in between.
