The best fragrant blooms for your garden – and indoors.

THE SWEETEST SWEET PEAS

Few scented flowers are powerful enough to be enjoyed several metres away but the classic sweet pea – the traditional varieties – will carry its perfume for some distance, especially on a calm summer's day. Look for heirloom varieties such as 'Cupani', 'Matucana' or 'Painted Lady'. Spencer varieties are highly fragrant too, as are many of Dr Keith Hammett's cultivars, like the popular 'High Scent' and 'Erewhon'.
