NZ Gardener - Garden Diary 2018 - - Garden Tasks This Week -

Resist the temptation to eat all your homegrown garlic. Keep the fattest outer cloves from your best bulbs to use as seed cloves for next season. Continue this process of selection each year to develop your own heirloom strain – one you can be sure suits your local climate. If you’re organised, or you have farming friends with free manure for the taking, you can start preparing your garlic bed now by digging in plenty of sheep or cow manure. It will have rotted down nicely by mid-winter. Or plant up the bare patch with green manure and dig it in mid-winter.
