Secure newly planted trees to stakes with soft fabric ties (old tights or T-shirts cut into strips). Existing trees may need new or replacement support, especially in windy sites. Don’t overdo it – the tree needs to be braced so it doesn’t rock wildly in the wind, yet it must still move a little so the roots are encouraged to establish as strong anchors.
