Time your avocado harvest right.
Avocados do not fully ripen until after being picked: ripe fruit should be ready to eat five or 10 days after that. But pick before the fruit is mature, and it will stay rock hard and never ripen. ’Hass’ avocados (one of the most common varieties here) should be ready now, but to check the fruit on your tree, pick one. If it isn’t edible in 10 days, then wait!
