DIY recipe
Elderflower gin and tonic.
Surely a well-deserved reward for gardeners after a hard day's work growing and sowing
FOR ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR
15-20 spray-free elderflower heads, washed 1 litre vodka 1½ cup granulated sugar 3-4 slices of lemon Put all in a jar, seal and leave in a cool spot for at least a week (we have heard of some connoisseurs waiting for up to a month!). Shake the jar occasionally to dissolve sugar. Strain the liqueur and decant into a sterilised bottle.
FOR ELDERFLOWER GIN AND TONIC
60ml gin 30ml elderflower liqueur 1 slice of lime or lemon tonic water Fill your glass with ice. Pour in gin and elderflower liqueur. Squeeze in your lime or lemon and top up with tonic water. Stir.
