Citronella can­dles.

YOU’LL NEED: • Mini ter­ra­cotta pots • Wax and wicks (from craft stores) • Tape • Scis­sors • Citronella es­sen­tial oil SOME PEO­PLE SWEAR BY CITRONELLA

CAN­DLES for keep­ing mosquitoes away although re­search sug­gests you’d get bet­ter pro­tec­tion from top­i­cal creams and sound cul­tural prac­tices such as tip­ping wa­ter out of out­door con­tain­ers that could oth­er­wise al­low mos­qui­tos to breed! Still, there’s no rea­son you can’t en­joy these easy-to-make can­dles. Trim wicks ac­cord­ing to pot height and tape one to the bot­tom of each pot. Melt wax in a dou­ble boiler, then stir in citronella oil (3 drops per 1 cup of wax). When pour­ing wax into the pots, use a pen­cil or chop­stick to keep wicks cen­tred.
