MY RABBIT CATCHER

-

I have just been reading Lynda Hallinan’s column (September 2018) and noticed that a thought for keeping the rabbits away from her strawberries was a “small yappy dog”. I have a better idea for her: she should invest in a Basenji. They are very quiet and love heat. They can’t bark but they do spend time arguing/talking to you. They are the best hunters and a fit dog can run rabbits down to catch them. If they are anything like my boy, he will then settle in to eat the whole carcass except the powder puff. So if you have enough rabbits, you don’t even need to buy dog food.

I have found this issue of NZ Gardener so interesting that I have only got as far as Lynda’s column, so at this rate I will have only just got to the end by the time the next month’s issue hits the shops. Derek Seeley, MILTON
