New seed company for New Zealand _______________________________
Fairbanks Seeds will begin servicing customers in New Zealand from early 2018 through their new business Fairbanks Seeds NZ Ltd.
Says George Jelbart, director of Fairbanks Australia: “Fairbanks Seeds has been supplying seed to Australian vegetable growers for more than 90 years. Recently, after a successful partnership with Syngenta in Australia, Syngenta requested our services in New Zealand to ensure that New Zealand growers can realise the full potential of the genetic pipeline coming from Syngenta.
From Monday 1 January 2018, Fairbanks Seeds NZ became the exclusive distributor of Syngenta leafy and brassica, field cucurbits and field solanaceae portfolios within New Zealand. In addition to this Syngenta range, New Zealand growers will now gain access to a range of Fairbanks varieties and the varietal expertise of the Fairbanks team” Says George: “From our origins as a seed merchant in the Queen Victoria Markets in Melbourne, most Fairbanks varieties are naturally suited to the cooler climates of southern Australia, which logically marries quite closely to the New Zealand requirements. In addition to the above-mentioned Syngenta crops our strengths include baby leaf salad varieties, bunching vegetables and herbs. “
Cameron Robbie has been appointed as the New Zealand sales manager for Fairbanks, commencing January this year and based out of Pukekohe. “Cameron will work hard to ensure that all New Zealand vegetable growers have access and can trial Fairbanks and Syngenta varieties, with a view to improving their current commercial crops. Cameron has extensive experience in the New Zealand vegetable seed industry and is excited by the range of Fairbanks and Syngenta varieties on offer to the New Zealand growers.”
Fairbanks Seeds NZ is up and running at its Pukekohe office. “There we have a dedicated facility, complete with seed storage and customer service team. We are excited about introducing our range to New Zealand and hope we can make ourselves useful to the vegetable growers of New Zealand”.
