Will Clin­ton-Baker, a joiner, put in plenty of late nights cre­at­ing the kitchen he and his wife Phoebe de­signed. Will was fran­ti­cally busy at work while his fam­ily’s new home was be­ing built, so time was tight, Phoebe says.

The vi­sion: “We wanted a kitchen that show­cased tim­ber in a modern black set­ting.”

It’s hard-wear­ing: “The matt black ply pan­els from Prime Pan­els are a key fea­ture. Peo­ple think black is hard to main­tain, but it just wipes clean. The Dek­ton stone top is amaz­ing – it’s heat-rated and I love be­ing able to put things from the oven straight onto the bench.”

We love: “The As­tra Walker bronze tap from The Kitchen Hub. It will gain a patina as it ages and start to look more or­ganic.” Judges’ comment: “Lovely de­tail in this kitchen. A very clever, func­tional space pulled to­gether on a lim­ited bud­get. The shelves styled with plants and pot­tery are a great fin­ish­ing touch.”
