Rachyl Abraham, Auckland

NZ House & Garden - - INTERIOR OF THE YEAR 2018 -

With three kids, Rachyl Abraham wanted the master suite to be a calm and restful adult space. The open beam ceiling ensures headroom is maximised for an airy feel. Garments can be on display: “I was inspired by the idea of a beautiful clothing boutique. There’s a spot to put shoes on and drawer tops for display.” The furnishings add colour: “The soft linens have a dreamy feel, accentuated with a punch of colour from the cushions, chairs and tie-backs.”

The views are maximised: “The skylights and windows are at just the right height to enjoy the view and see what the day has in store.”

Judges’ comments: “A sophisticated, elegant room. A lot is happening but it’s well zoned; the designer hasn’t put a foot wrong.”
