Gorgeous costumes and restrained acting feature in this tale of two book lovers

NZ House & Garden - - NOTED -

When war widow Florence Green (played by Emily Mortimer) opens a bookshop in a historic building in small-town Suffolk, not everyone is pleased. England in 1959 is a conservative place and she soon makes a powerful enemy who has other plans for the site. But she also finds an unlikely source of support in the mysterious loner and fellow book lover, Mr Brundish (Bill Nighy). Directed by Isabel Coixet, elegantly adapted from a Penelope Fitzgerald novel. Opens nationwide on 24 May.
