OAKLAND FIRST FRIDAYS

On the first Friday of each month about 20,000 people hit Oakland’s Telegraph Avenue for a street party celebrating home-grown music, art and the Bay Area’s famously innovative food trucks – from barbecue to vegetarian Ethiopian fare.

INTO THE WOODS

Cathedral Grove at Muir Woods has ancient redwoods your whole family would be hardpressed to get their arms around. To see the towering trees without the crowds, follow the Dipsea Trail on an epic day hike from land to sea.

VISIT BERKELEY

Stroll the grounds of the university, take a dip in the rooftop pool at the Hearst Gymnasium, enjoy a panorama of the Bay Area from Indian Rock before dining at Chez Panisse, a pioneer of farm-to-table Californian cuisine.
