Q&A
We decided at the outset: To share this house. We certainly don’t need seven bedrooms and 900sqm. Help came: From so many directions. Mum always made healthy meals for us and the tradespeople. Our friends helped. After our baby died, my sister arrived from Auckland at 36 weeks pregnant and just took charge of everything.
My dad would approve: Of all the extra glass we put in. He used to do leadlight glass work, and he built the conservatory, which is like a mini Kew Gardens. We added these giant floor to ceiling glass triangles that let light in and modernise the house.
Living here: Feels like a castle after our little apartment above the garage. It looks beautiful and very liveable, light and bright and airy. And it’s home. Isabelle Weston
