Our Christmas fairies
Photographer Belinda Merrie and stylist Tracey Strange Watts have been weaving NZ House & Garden Christmas magic together for a decade or more. This year Belinda rounded up a trio of fairies for our shoot on page 16 – her five-year-old daughter Lily and next-door neighbours Anna, six, and Lucy, eight. The girls were smitten by the tutus and $10 angel wings, says Tracey. “You should have seen their eyes when they saw them. That shot of them wearing them playing down by the beach will be a huge memory for me. They looked so happy.” Tracey’s vision for the shoot was of a long, festive lunch. “Relaxed, sunny and as effortless as it’s possible to be over Christmas. I love the feel of it – the breeze showing in the silk streamers and tablecloth, the freedom of the children dancing round, the Chinese lantern flowers in the Fairy Flowers arrangement, the cute upside-down rosemary trees on the cake. Looking at these images I will make sure my Christmas is a little more relaxed than usual. It looks like fun.” As for Lily? She’s barely been out of her tutu since the photo shoot and is hoping for a “real” microphone from Santa this Christmas. Apparently her hairbrush just won’t cut it any more, says Belinda.
