Q&A

NZ House & Garden - - HOMES -

Best money spent: Insulation, double-glazing and merino carpet throughout. It’s the most gorgeous, soft, thick carpet ever.

The most debate was: Over the removal of 13 magnolias on the edge of the tennis court. But the new walled garden is gorgeous. I love the form of Thuja ‘Smaragd’, buxus balls and agapanthus, not to mention the extra sun.

If there was one thing I could do differently:

It would have been to install a water feature on the north-west patio at the beginning. I’m still longing for the soothing sounds of cascading water.

Best seat in the house: There are so many lovely spots to choose from. I try to ring the changes to enjoy tea with friends in the various spots, depending on the season – the sunroom, the formal sitting room with its calming colours, or my new favourite table on the verandah on a summer’s day listening to the bellbirds and p wakawaka.
