Pear & Turmeric Relish

Peel, core and dice 4 large pears. Chop 2 large onions. Place the pears and onions in a large pot. Add 1 cup sultanas, 2 teaspoons each ground turmeric, mustard seeds, curry powder, salt and grated fresh ginger. Add 1¼ cups vinegar and 1 cup sugar. Bring to the boil, stirring until sugar dissolves then simmer hard for 20-25 minutes. Turn down the heat to simmer gently for 10-15 minutes more, or until the liquid is reduced and syrupy. Spoon into sterilised jars and seal well. Makes about 4 cups
