Earthy colours envelop a calm work space

As our working lives become more flexible, finding a corner to work from or to quickly check emails is a handy space to have at home – no need to perch at the dining table or kitchen bench. A dedicated home office may not be necessary; just use a simple desk that blends into the look and feel of the main living area. The area at left, for example, has a zen-like serenity, accentuated by earthy Resene tones, including wood stains. Adding shelves nearby will meet any storage needs and can double as display space for ornaments – although as our laptops become the repository of all our information, there is a reducing need for storage for papers and folders.

Try rich browns with pale stone colours, bush greens and burnt blacks.
