QUALITY ahead of its time
Perfect results, time after time, with Miele appliances
The Miele brand is synonymous with craftsmanship and known for appliances that are reliable, durable and beautifully designed. It’s this reputation that makes Miele the brand of choice for expert designers.
Designing for more than 25 years, award-winning kitchen designer Mal Corboy has worked in homes throughout New Zealand and the world. Mal collaborated with Miele to transform a 1990s apartment in Auckland’s St Heliers Bay, combining the influences of two cultures. He wanted to showcase the owner’s antique furniture and honour their Japanese heritage in the beachfront property as well as integrate modern touches throughout the design scheme.
Mal was drawn to Miele for its sleek handleless designs and colour options that integrated beautifully into the cabinetry.
What inspires your designs?
Inspiration comes from life – from as small as the shape of a shampoo bottle, or as big as a stunning international commercial building. The more you’re in it, the more you are inspired. I’ve been in it a while now and there’s a lot which has inspired me.
Have you seen a change in the way people use their kitchens?
Most definitely. When I first started most kitchens were tiny spaces and didn’t have the room to fit a dishwasher in them. We now look at how the client uses their kitchen. We’re influenced by the types of appliances now and the breadth of the range that is available. 2020 saw us stay at home and people are looking to cook and entertain more at home.
What appliances would you recommend for someone’s kitchen?
The Miele dishwasher. It just does the job so well. The quietness of this machine, for me, is the key feature. We’re designing a lot of open spaces and when you’re hosting a dinner party you wouldn’t even know that the dishwasher was running in the background. It also has a trustworthy quality. You want to steer the client in the right direction when selecting appliances and the value of the kitchen needs to match the appliance.
