Donna White of Donna White Interior Design says that standard and table lamps are important for creating atmosphere in a room. “They allow me, most importantly, to balance a room. Consider a space where only one corner of a room is light – it will feel unbalanced. On the other hand, should a room be illuminated in every corner, the overwhelming brightness will negate the mood you are trying to create. She will use, for example, a floor lamp to illuminate the front area of a room and a table lamp in a back corner.
