LET THE SUN SHINE
Mention double glazing or solar power just a generation ago and many would look at you askance. Having a building envelope that keeps in the heat is key, not just with good insulation but with double glazing. There are a variety of types with varying efficiencies and also retrofit options. Both the EECA and SEANZ websites have tools to assess if solar power is right for your particular situation – how long it takes to save enough to warrant the initial cost. There are other motivations, of course, such as the desire to generate lower carbon emissions and adding a desirable infrastructure to a house for future resale.
