Ida Carey: A Contemporary Viewing
3 June to 7 October, Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato The spotlight falls on Waikato artist Ida Harriet Carey (1891-1982) and her resounding impact on the region’s creative landscape. Well-known for an extensive series of portraits featuring Maori women with moko, Carey produced a diverse portfolio of works during her multi-decade career. In recognizing both her place in the history of New Zealand art and the Suffrage125 commemoration, each of Carey’s paintings is teamed with a work by a prominent New Zealand woman artist including Rita Angus, Frances Hodgkins, Dame Louise Henderson, Ans Westra and Adele Younghusband. waikatomuseum.co.nz
