Conduct Cumulus

-

Southern Quad, Christchurch Arts Centre A community of oversized bubbles drifting across an outdoor space at the newly refurbished Christchurch Arts Centre is the latest work installed by SCAPE Public Art, an organization delivering a raft of contemporary art projects to urban settings in the city. Conduct Cumulus by Korean-born Auckland-based artist Seung Yul Oh honours the people of Christchurch who’ve worked individually and collectively to rebuild the city. The playful work salutes the enduring fascination with bubbles and demonstrates the artist’s interest in the physics of the glassy orbs – a bubble will try to become a sphere and “the resulting union is always one of total sharing and compromise”. scapepublicart.org.nz
