Performing Textiles
To 26 August, Dunedin Public Art Gallery In four dynamic video works Bangkok-based artist Kawita Vatanajyankur uses her body as a tool to portray processes and tasks used in the textile industry, including a spinning wheel and a shuttle on a loom. In 2017 Vatanajyankur was part of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s Visiting Artist Programme during which time she pursued her long-term exploration of textile production and her interest in everyday domestic and industrial labour – reflecting her position as a female living in Thailand. Choreographed acrobatics, brilliant colour, endurance and repetitive actions are all part of the mix. dunedin.art.museum
